eLearn Frequently Asked Questions

How do the classes work?

Similar to our Adult Education classes that take place on a local campus, all new students take a placement test to determine their academic level. After finishing the placement tests, eLearn students can complete all coursework online (in reading, writing, math, social studies, science, and more!).

That means you can study at home and on your own schedule. There will be weekly lessons and assignments in each class. This means you can study early in the morning, late at night, on weekends, or whenever is convenient for you to do well in your classes.

How much does the eLearn course cost?

It’s completely free! Registration, testing, and the online classes are all free (just like all Adult Education programs)!

How many hours per week do I need to study?

New students can plan for at least 4-6 hours per week for the first month. After you finish your first few classes, you can build your own class schedule and take as few or many classes as you'd like and have time to complete.

Can I join the program if I have a mobile device?

While there will be many ways to connect to our online classes using a mobile device, you will also need a computer (laptop or desktop) with internet access in order to complete some of the math and writing coursework.

How do I apply?

You can apply to eLearn anytime throughout the year. The first step is to submit an online form. You will enter basic information about yourself and also select the Delgado programs that you are interested in joining.

What do the online classes look like?

The internet is loaded with various resources to help you build your reading, writing, and math skills. In eLearn, we use lots of those resources, including articles, videos, audio files, games, interactive lessons, and discussion boards to keep you connected with and learning alongside your classmates.

In addition to your online classes, we will also pair you with a coach who is available to help you succeed online. Your eLearn coach will work with you to set goals, build time management skills, and share resources to help you be successful!

What if I have a question or encounter a problem? Is there an instructor available to help me?

YES! You will actually be enrolled in a course with other students and an instructor that you can contact as needed. You will be able to chat and email with your fellow classmates, and your instructor will always be available by chat, email, phone, and video conferencing! And, your instructor and coach will be checking in with you on a regular basis to help you stay focused and motivated.

We also offer live chat Monday-Friday from 8am-8pm!

So, even though the courses are online, you will have a lot of support available to you including your classmates and our eLearn instructors and coaches!

How long does the program take to complete?

This question is tough to answer since every student is unique, and it also depends on how much effort you put forth. You will have a better idea of how ready you are to take the HiSET exam once you complete the placement testing process. Your coach will help you understand your test scores and work with you to set short and long term goals.

Remember, eLearn at Delgado is always free; so regardless of how long it takes you to get fully prepared for the exam, you can stay in the program as long as you want!
