The Culinary Arts Program at Delgado exemplifies Delgado’s belief that academic and practical training must coexist side-by-side to ensure a fruitful career. The program trains students in the art of cooking accompanied by supervised hands-on training. The program also prepares students for entry-level and mid-management culinary positions in the restaurant industry, provides skill upgrades for certification, and educates students to achieve promotions and increased wages.
Based on individual interests and ambitions, students can choose to concentrate in either Chef Apprenticeship, Catering, or Pastry Arts.
Students concentrating in Chef Apprenticeship will get the chance to study under executive chefs of hotels and restaurants in the metropolitan New Orleans area and follow the traditions of the European culinary apprenticeship programs.
In the concentration of Catering, students will gain a new level of professionalism and expertise required of today’s catering
professional by preparing students for on-and-off-premise catering. The program covers all aspects of catering planning,
development, implementation, supervision, and follow up, as well as other critical business issues of the industry.
Students interested in Pastry Arts will benefit from the concentration by training for baking and pastry industry in hopes of seeking occupations in hotels, restaurants, pastry shops, and in-store and privately owned bakeries.
