Delgado On Site (DOS)

Delgado On Site logoA High-School-to-College Transition Program

Overview

The goal of DOS is to help future Delgado Community College students make a successful transition to college life prior to high school graduation. A student’s transition will be considered successful when they complete all components of the DOS program. These components include:

  • completing the Career Pathways Workshop using our career software.
  • completing the financial aid process in a timely manner (preferably before the May 1 priority deadline).
  • applying for admission to Delgado.
  • meeting with a Delgado Advisor and registering for the first semester of classes.
  • completing online freshman orientation.

Counselors will be able to choose which DOS components their students need.

DOS Mission

To provide post-secondary access and opportunities to high school seniors who desire to enroll at Delgado.

DOS Participants

It is critical for the same students to attend each DOS session—those who are planning to attend Delgado, who are interested in Delgado, or those the counselor believes will benefit from DOS.

Components of DOS

Visit One: DOS Orientation, Intro to College, College Readiness, Career Pathways

This session covers the components and expectations of the DOS program, career pathways and goal setting, and offers an introduction to attending Delgado after high school. The enrollment advisor will provide students with general information about admission requirements, costs, majors, college culture, and the differences between private and state colleges. They will discuss the difference between choosing a major and choosing a career and the students will take a career assessment.

Visit Two: Delgado's Enrollment Process, Completing a Delgado Application

Students will learn how to successfully enroll at Delgado and will complete an application for admission on site. The enrollment advisor will explain that an ACT score is not required and will provide the various options for placement. Based on the results of the career assessment from the first visit, faculty from different programs will speak and answer questions about their programs.

Visit Three: Financial Aid Assessment

A Financial Aid Counselor will discuss the various types of financial assistance and explain how they can be used to pay for college. Students will learn about the entire financial aid process and what documents are needed to complete the FAFSA online. Students will be given informational handouts from the Financial Aid department including useful contact information should they or their parents need further assistance in completing the FAFSA. They will begin, and if possible, complete the FAFSA on site.

Visit Four: Advising and Registration

Students will have access to Academic Advisors from the classroom. Students meet with an academic advisor who will assist them in choosing appropriate classes for their first semester. The goal is to provide a steady enrollment progression and to allow students to have a first semester schedule in hand.
