Types of Aid
Financial aid is available for a variety of sources for college. Financial Aid is money to help pay for college. Aid can come from the U.S. Federal government, the state where you live, the college you attend, or a nonprofit or private organization.
Federal Aid
To qualify for Federal Aid students must complete a Free Application for Financial Student Aid (FAFSA).
Pell Grant
The Pell Grant does not need to be paid back and is offered to students who have financial
need and are enrolled in a degree-seeking program that is eligible for federal financial
aid. A student's Pell Grant will be disbursed to their account based on the number of hours enrolled in at the Payment Period Pell Recalculation
Date (PRD).
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)
Federal Work-Study
Fedearl Work-Study is available to any student that has unmet need remaining (EFC-
COA). Students must apply for work-study to be considered.
Loans
Loans are funds that are borrowed directly from the U.S. Department of Education that
the student must pay back. Student must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours at the time of disbursement to to have loan funds disbursed to their account. All loans must be accepted within 30 days of their offer. After 30 days, the college
may cancel the loan offer.
Louisiana Aid
TOPS
TOPS is a program of state scholarships for Louisiana residents who attend either
one of the Louisiana Public Colleges. Eligibility is determined by Louisiana Office
of Student Financial Assistance (LOSFA) following a student’s graduation from high
school. Students should receive a TOPS Award notification from LOSFA by July 15th.

Students must be enrolled in at 12 credit hours at the Payment Period Pell Recalculation Date (PRD) to have TOPS funds disbursed to their account.
The purpose of this program is to provide a need-based component to the state’s financial aid plan to support nontraditional and low to moderate-income students who need additional aid to afford the cost of attending college.
To be eligible for a Louisiana Go Grant, a student must:
- Be a Louisiana Resident;
- File a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA);
- Receive a federal Pell Grant;
- Have remaining financial need after deducting Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) and all federal/state/institutional grant or scholarship aid ("gift aid") from student's Cost of Attendance (COA);
- Be a student enrolled in an eligible Louisiana institution on at least a half-time basis (minimum 6 hours).
Award amounts to eligible students are based on the institution’s allocation and their packaging policy. Awards may vary with each academic year. Awards will not be paid for summer sessions.
