Louisiana Insurance Academy

About the Program

Delgado Community College and the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of Louisiana (IIABL) have teamed up to launch the Louisiana Insurance Academy, a program focused on kick-starting a career in insurance. The IIABL and national insurance companies are helping to subsidize the cost of Louisiana Insurance Academy tuition, reducing out of pocket costs for students.

Students in the program will first be introduced to the fundamentals of Property and Casualty insurance before taking on a much more detailed study of both Personal and Commercial insurance. The course requires reading in advance of each class, and each in-class session will enhance the students' comprehension of the subject matter through discussion, case studies, and group problem solving. The program prepares graduates for an entry-level career in the insurance industry.

Graduates of the first three cohorts have found rewarding careers in the insurance industry. Testimonials from some of these graduates are shared below:

"...the most challenging and rewarding experience that I have had working in this industry..."

"...a great influence on me and my career..."

"The opportunity I received from attending the Louisiana Insurance Academy has been life changing."

"The LIA has opened doors for people to have new careers and perspective on insurance."

"Thanks to the LIA, I have earned my two professional designations and have moved up the financial ladder significantly in the insurance industry."
