All of Us Initiative Participates in Black History Month Event at the Whitney Plantation
March 08, 2024
Brenda Wilcox Hogan, Grant Coordinator of Delgado Community College’s All of Us Research initiative, participated in a Celebration of Black History Month at the Whitney Plantation in Wallace, Louisiana. The event aimed to recognize the rich history and significant contributions of African Americans, within the context of the plantation's historical significance. The focus was on Cultural Appreciation, Unity, Community Strength Building, Civic Engagement, Collaboration, and Partnerships.
During the event, the All of Us Research Grant Coordinator shared information about the research program, with the aim of raising awareness and educating future research program participants. All of Us is committed to reaching out to communities that have historically been underrepresented in biomedical research, including 50% from racial and ethnic minority groups. The researchers will use the data contributed by the participants to learn more about how biology, lifestyle, and the environment affect health. The goal is to speed up health research discoveries and enable new kinds of individualized healthcare. For their partnership, Delgado Community College was presented with a plaque of appreciation.
