Delgado Enters New Partnership to Help Students Earn a Four-Year Degree

October 17, 2017

Delgado Community College and The University of Alabama (UA) are launching a unique partnership to help students complete a four-year degree. Delgado is the first college outside of Alabama to participate in the University’s Bama Link program.

Through the Bama Link partnership, students earn an associate degree from Delgado and then apply to a University of Alabama distance learning program. Once accepted, students become eligible for a tuition grant that covers tuition for one 3-credit-hour course. Full-time faculty and staff of Delgado who wish to pursue an advanced degree are also eligible for this grant.

“For many students, transitioning from a two-year to a four-year college isn’t always a smooth process. They face numerous obstacles; therefore, we wanted to create a program that makes the transition easier. Our community college relations coordinator assists prospective students and serves as a resource for students transferring to UA,” said Dixie MacNeil, associate dean for UA’s College of Continuing Studies.

Prospective students may choose from a number of degree programs offered online through The University of Alabama. The degree earned is the same as one earned by campus students, and courses are taught by the same professors who teach on campus. The online format means students can earn a degree from UA while living and working at home in Louisiana or from any location. Like other distance learners, Bama Link students pay one flat tuition rate; there is no out-of- state tuition for distance learners.
