Muniz Family and Endymion Support Isaac’s Promise Scholarships for Delgado Students

May 22, 2023

The passing of the founder and captain of the Krewe of Endymion, Ed Muniz, on May 20 came one week after an event took place at the Delgado Community College City Park Campus to dedicate a statue in his honor.

During the dedication event, the Muniz family donated $250,000 to Delgado, and the krewe announced it is donating another $250,000 to Delgado over the next 10 years. The gifts will support the college’s newly established Isaac’s Promise Scholarship Fund. The fund is named for Delgado’s founder, Isaac Delgado, and aims to improve access to higher education for African American male community members.

In recognition of this commitment, Delgado dedicated the new Endymion Garden as a tribute to Muniz on Saturday, May 13. A statue of Muniz, the longest serving captain in Carnival history, now stands on the Delgado City Park Campus near the Orleans Avenue location where the Endymion parade has formed for over four decades.

“All of us at Delgado are saddened by the passing of Mr. Muniz, and we extend our sympathies to the Muniz family and the members of Endymion,” said Dr. Larissa Littleton-Steib, Delgado Chancellor. “Delgado and Endymion are longtime partners, brought together by both the proximity of the Endymion parade route to Delgado’s campus and a shared dedication to support and advance the community to which we all belong.”
