Delgado Theatre Department to Present ‘Hansel and Gretel’ April 20-23
February 28, 2023
The Delgado Theatre Department announces their latest production: the Grimm Brothers classic, “Hansel and Gretel,” in a comedic and redemptive adaptation by William Glennon.
The storyline is well known but the Delgado production will include some tasty twists. In a famine-plagued 17th century community, money is scarce, and food is even scarcer, providing a perfect opportunity for an evil witch to beguile a poor mother into leading her two unsuspecting children deep into the forest. With grit, wit, and help from some new-found friends, Hansel and Gretel battle the evil witch who is determined to make a meal for herself. A sweet time for the whole family, Glennon’s clever take on the fairy tale serves it up with just desserts.
The play will be performed by Delgado Theatre students. The production staff includes costume design by Shelby Lynn Marie Butera, scene design by James Means, lighting and sound design by Tom Dawson.
“Hansel and Gretel” opens Thursday, April 20, 2023 in the Timothy K. Baker Theatre, 615 City Park Ave, Building 1. The production will run one week only: Thursday, April 20th through Sunday, April 23rd. The curtain times for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evening performances are at 7:00 p.m. The Saturday and Sunday matinees on April 22nd and 23rd are at 2:00 p.m.
Thursday, April 20th will include American Sign Language interpreters.
Tickets are $10 general admission, $8 for children 16 and under, and $8 for Delgado students, faculty, staff, and senior citizens.
