Delgado Community College Celebrates LCTCS Impact Award Honorees

October 09, 2024

Delgado Community College is proud to announce the recipients of the 2024 LCTCS Impact Awards, honored at the LCTCS Impact Awards Gala on October 1 at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside Hotel:

  • Todd Trosclair, Delgado Foundation Board Member – Woody Ogé Excellence in Advocacy Award
  • Joe Scheuermann, Delgado Athletic Director and Head Baseball Coach – Walter G. Bumphus Leadership Award
  • Spectrum, Delgado Nursing Student Organization – I Am Louisiana’s Future Award

The gala, part of the annual LCTCS conference, recognizes individuals and organizations for advancing educational and workforce initiatives in Louisiana.

Todd Trosclair, a Delgado graduate and Foundation Board member, received the Woody Ogé Excellence in Advocacy Award for his tireless support of Delgado’s mission. Trosclair founded the College’s Building Futures event in 2019, which has raised over $200,000 for scholarships benefiting students in high-demand programs like culinary arts, nursing, construction arts, allied health, and automotive technology. More than 130 students have received scholarships through this initiative. For many recipients, these scholarships make the critical difference between completing their degrees and withdrawing from college.

Trosclair’s connection to Delgado runs deep. A 1979 Delgado graduate in Electrical Construction Technology, he has grown his company, All Star Electric, Inc., into a major employer with over 450 employees across five states. Trosclair remains committed to Delgado’s future, helping fund workforce training and student success initiatives.

Also a Delgado graduate, Coach Joe Scheuermann, athletic director and head of the College’s baseball program for 35 years, was honored with the Walter G. Bumphus Leadership Award. Under his leadership, Delgado Baseball has become a powerhouse in junior college athletics, both locally and nationally. In 1990, Scheuermann continued a proud family tradition when he became head of Delgado Baseball when his father, Louis “Rags” Scheuermann, who founded the program in 1974, retired. He became athletic director in 2013. In 2019, Scheuermann became the first coach in Louisiana to reach 1,000 career wins at the same institution. He also holds the state record for the most career victories in junior college baseball, with over 1,178 wins. Scheuermann held a pivotal role in the establishment of the state-of-the-art Gayle and Tom Benson Athletic Complex. The complex was built by fundraised dollars and will house the Delgado’s athletic administrative offices, training and meeting facilities, and the program’s first-ever permanent baseball locker room facility.

Scheuermann is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association Hall of Fame, National Junior College Athletic Association Hall of Fame, and the All-American Amateur Baseball Association Hall of Fame. He is a recipient of the Allstate Sugar Bowl’s Eddie Robinson Award for outstanding achievements in athletics, sportsmanship, and citizenship while maximizing the use of limited resources. Beyond the field, Scheuermann has mentored hundreds of student-athletes in how to be successful not only on the playing field but also in the classroom, in their careers, and in becoming model citizens. His focus on academic success is evident, with 152 Delgado student-athletes earning associate degrees since 2014, and many transferring to four-year universities or entering successful careers.

Delgado’s nursing student organization, Spectrum, was awarded the I Am Louisiana’s Future Award for its contributions to student development and community engagement. Spectrum fosters academic and social support for students, creating a welcoming space for all.

The organization has led multiple initiatives, including blood drives, career fairs, and volunteer activities. Spectrum’s members also organize educational sessions and community events, helping students build leadership and professional skills. Their dedication to service and learning makes them true ambassadors for the future of Louisiana’s healthcare workforce.
