November 18, 2024

As we celebrate International Education Week, meet some of our international students and learn more about some of the offices that support them.

Fatemeh Abbaskhani - Nursing Major

Fatemah Abbaskani

My name is Fatemeh, and I’m from Iran. After completing my undergraduate studies in midwifery, I discovered my true passion for nursing. My nursing passion has led me to Delgado Community College in pursuit of a healthcare career. Delgado’s strong reputation, flexible curriculum, and supportive environment were exactly what I needed to continue my education in the U.S. and work toward my long-term goals. I am currently studying nursing and look forward to advancing in this field, with plans to pursue graduate studies to further specialize in patient care.

Duc Nguyen - Motor Vehicle Technology Major

Duc Nguyen

My name is Duc Nguyen I am from Vietnam. Delgado won me over with its stellar reputation in automotive technology, its vibrant community, and its embrace of diversity. As an international student, feeling at home here was crucial, and Delgado's inclusive atmosphere made it an easy choice for me.

The most rewarding part of my Delgado experience has been the strong camaraderie among students and faculty. From collaborating on projects to sharing stories, every day brings new connections and friendships that make college life truly special.
What makes my classes at Delgado stand out is the perfect blend of theory and hands-on experience. The instructors bring the material to life with real-world examples and practical exercises, ensuring that we not only understand the concepts but also feel confident applying them in the automotive industry.

Pablo Salazar – Electrical Engineering Major

Pablo Salazar

Hello, my name is Pablo Salazar, and I’m originally from Mexico. I’ve been living in New Orleans for the past two years. "This past semester, I became the president of the Student Government Association, while getting as many credit hours as I can before transferring to a 4-year school with a program for Mechanical Engineering. Delgado has provided me with several opportunities to secure a better future here in the United States and I hope it does the same for other students. I advise other students to “Just pay attention and do some work, and the opportunities will come."

Qian Ni - Culinary Arts Major

Qian Ni

My name is Qian Ni. I am from Shanghai, China. I started taking ESL in Spring 2021. I learned grammar, composition, reading, and conversation courses. The ESL teachers are all professional and nice. They helped me improve my English level and I got to know the different cultures here. Most importantly, I was able to adapt the life and study in the US, communicate with local people, and get ready to take the Culinary Arts classes more smoothly.

The Culinary Arts is a challenging field that requires knowledge of various techniques, science, and business skills. The experienced and knowledgeable chef provided me with a wonderful learning experience and Delgado offers a professional kitchen as well as the alley of equipment.  The kitchen is just like a mini commercial operation where I learned hands-on skills and experimented with various food services scenarios. Delgado provides me with a wonderful learning environment and professional teachers. I enjoy the school life here and appreciate all the convenience and help.
