Delgado’s LaVance Honored by Pharmacy Technician Educators Council

Anne LaVance of Chalmette, director of the Delgado Community College Pharmacy Technician Program, has received the Technician Educators Award at the 2018 PTEC Annual Conference in Indianapolis, IN on July 13.
LaVance has served on the Executive Board of PTEC (Pharmacy Technician Educators Council) since 2014 when she began a 3-year tenure of president-elect/president/past-president. In 2017 she was elected to the Event Coordinator position, and is currently serving a two year term.
LaVance has been a presenter at the PTEC conference for the last two years and has done several presentations for the Louisiana Society of Health-System Pharmacists. Her most recent presentation at PTEC was Pharm TECH: Technology Options for Interactive Learning.
LaVance is an Accreditation Guest Site Surveyor for ASHP / ACPE the organizations which accredit Pharmacy Technician Programs.
LaVance has a degree and certifications from the University of Arizona and Pima Community College in Tucson. She studied pre-pharmacy at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy (Boston) and Hudson Valley Community College (Troy, NY). She holds numerous certifications and continuing education credits in pharmacy teaching and practice.
LaVance has taught in the Pharmacy Technician Program at Delgado since 2003, and has been program director since 2004. Most recently, she has earned the rank of Professor. She is a member of many professional councils and societies and participates in a wide range of activities on behalf of students college-wide at Delgado and also within the Division of Allied Health.
Delgado's Pharmacy Technician Certificate of Technical Studies provides academic and clinical education in pharmacy practice. The program includes instruction in pharmacology, pharmacy calculations, clinical practice, preparing and dispensing medications, classification of drugs, sterile products and materials management. The skills of the pharmacy technician complement those of the registered pharmacist.
The Pharmacy Technician Program at Delgado is a three-semester program of combined clinical and classroom education. Upon successful completion, students will be prepared to take the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Examination offered by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board. The Delgado Pharmacy Technician Program students have a 93% pass rate on the PTCE.
