Delgado Maritime Program Upgrades Featured in The Waterways Journal

Significant advancements in Delgado Community College’s Maritime and Industrial Training Center that further strengthen our reputation as a premier training hub for the maritime industry were featured in a recent article in The Waterways Journal. The center's Full Mission Navigation suite has been upgraded with Wartsila’s latest software, expanding simulation capabilities to include critical waterways such as the Ohio River and the Atchafalaya River. Additionally, the center launched Louisiana’s only Coast Guard-approved, computer-based advanced firefighting program, ensuring students receive cutting-edge training in command and control.

To meet growing industry demand, Delgado welcomed Captain Randy Savoie to the team and is hiring additional instructors to support its expanding curriculum. With a renewed Center of Excellence designation from the U.S. Maritime Administration, Delgado continues to provide high-quality training and certification opportunities. Delgado is also working to secure tuition assistance options, helping mariners and industry partners offset costs through programs like the Incumbent Worker Grant.
