July 09, 2024

Delgado Community College is one of 23 minority-serving higher education institutions across the U.S. to receive a $50,000 grant through NASA’s Minority University Research and Education Project (MUREP) Partnership Learning Annual Notification (MPLAN) award, which will allow faculty and students to collaborate with NASA subject matter experts on NASA research and technology development projects.

Delgado STEM faculty members Dr. Barbaro Medina Alvarez, Abbey Wallig, and Joanna Rivers will work with Colleen Fava, director of the Louisiana Space Grant Consortium, and Dr. Paul Darby, engineering professor at the University of Lafayette, to establish a competitive small satellite research program, which will include a strong English component to assist students with writing competitive research proposals and completing scholarship and challenge applications.

Delgado's program will help underrepresented students enhance their educational and career opportunities in STEM as well as poise Delgado to receive future support from NASA for collaborative research projects.
