Delgado Awarded $1.2 Million Perkins V Grant Funding

September 21, 2020

Delgado Community College has been awarded $1,218,216.63 for the fiscal period July 1, 2020 – June 30, 2021 by LCTCS to implement The Strengthening Career & Technical Education for the 21st Century ( Perkins V) Grant.

As stated in the LCTCS  Perkins V Manual, “Perkins V amends the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act of 2006 (Perkins IV).  The new act was signed into law July 31, 2018.  It became effective on July 1, 2019.  The reauthorization process was driven largely by a desire to ensure that students are prepared for 21st century careers.  This framing led to a workforce development focus throughout Perkins V, with an emphasis on encouraging and incentivizing innovation within career and technical education.”

The purpose of the grant is to develop more fully the academic knowledge and technical and employability skills required by students who elect to enroll in career and technical education programs of study.

Delgado will utilize the funds to support innovative CTE Programs of Study at the college for three high-demand and high-wage industries: Health Science, Information Technology, and Skilled Crafts (Technical).
