March 11, 2025

The Omega Nu Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Delgado Community College has had an exceptional 2024, filled with remarkable achievements, awards, and service. From academic honors to leadership recognition, this year has been a testament to the hard work and commitment of the chapter’s advisors and student members.

MS/LA Regional Awards Gala

The Omega Nu Chapter made a powerful impression at the Mississippi/Louisiana (MS/LA) Regional Awards Gala, held February 29 - March 1 at William Carey University. Omega Nu emerged as the top-performing Louisiana chapter, earning the prestigious Five-Star Chapter Award.

Chapter President Chase Lawson was honored with the Order of Golden Key Award and the Distinguished Chapter Officer Award, recognizing his outstanding leadership. Advisors Emily Fulgham-Clay and Kim Russell received the Regional Horizon Advisor Award for their dedicated mentorship. Additionally, the chapter was awarded the MS/LA Regional Hallmark Award for Honors in Action Special Topics for Theme Three, "Systems of Play." Omega Nu continued its legacy of leadership by being elected as the Louisiana State Representative for the MS/LA Region, a position it has held for many years.

State and National Recognition

On April 4, Chase Lawson had the distinguished honor of representing Delgado Community College and the MS/LA Region of Phi Theta Kappa by carrying the Louisiana state flag during the opening ceremonies at the Phi Theta Kappa 2024 Catalyst Convention in Orlando.

Just a week later, on April 11, three outstanding Omega Nu members—William Anderson, Destiny Boudreaux, and Jeremy Gaudet—were recognized at the LCTCS ALL-Louisiana Luncheon in Baton Rouge. They were named to the 2024 ALL-Louisiana Academic Team of Phi Theta Kappa, highlighting their academic excellence and contributions to the community.

Leadership and Academic Achievements

In May, Vice President of Service Devan Fendlason was appointed as the Louisiana State At-Large Officer for the MS/LA Region, further solidifying Omega Nu’s influence within Phi Theta Kappa.

June brought additional honors, with Chapter Advisor Kim Russell selected for the second consecutive year as a faculty scholar for the 2024 Regional Honors Institute at Mississippi University for Women.

In August, Public Relations Officer Michael Malone along with fellow member Alison Majors were named 2024 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholars, each earning a $1,000 scholarship for their academic excellence.

Projects and Professional Development

The chapter remained active in professional development and leadership training. At the MS/LA 2024 Fall Leadership Conference, held September 5 - 6 at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, Chase Lawson and Devan Fendlason were inducted as regional officers. Advisor Kim Russell led a breakout session, while faculty advisor Emily Clay and new member Dominique Douglas also attended.

In October, Emosha Antonie-Butler earned national recognition out of more than 4,500 submissions for her literary work, “Just…Super,” which was selected for publication in the 30th edition of Nota Bene, Phi Theta Kappa’s esteemed honors anthology.

November saw the chapter giving back to the community through a Thanksgiving food giveaway in collaboration with Single Stop and other Delgado student organizations and departments, ensuring that students in need received essential food supplies.

Scholarship Nominations and New Inductions

As the year ended, Omega Nu was honored to nominate three exceptional members for the ALL-USA Scholarship Opportunity Program: Sara Moran, the chapter’s first nominee from Delgado Charity School of Nursing, along with City Park Campus nominees Logan Smith and Justin Trochez.

Throughout 2024, Omega Nu continued to grow, inducting an impressive 272 new members into the Delgado Community College family.
