Delgado’s STEAM Day: Sparking Lifelong Learning Through Discovery and Innovation
March 20, 2025
At Delgado Community College, STEAM Day isn’t just a one-day event—it’s a launchpad for lifelong learning, discovery, and opportunity. Held each spring on Delgado’s vibrant City Park Campus, STEAM Day—now in its third year—is organized by the School of STEM, led by co-chairs Drs. Jordan Adams and Amanda Rosenzweig. Delgado’s School of Liberal Arts, Social Sciences, and Education; the School of Business; the School of Allied Health; the Delgado Charity School of Nursing; and the School of Construction Arts and Technical Studies also participated.
The event brings together students from local schools and home-schooled students for a full day of hands-on science, technology, engineering, art, and math experiences. The goal of the program is to break down barriers and bust the myth that science, technology, and art are only for a select few. Through creative, engaging activities, students see firsthand that exploring and researching the world is something they can do—and Delgado is here to help them do it.
This year, Delgado partnered with a dynamic group of community organizations to bring STEAM to life in exciting, meaningful ways. From science experiments to interactive exhibits, students engaged with the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Louisiana Children’s Museum, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans Public Library, the National Park Service, Pontchartrain Conservancy, Northshore Technical Community College SkyLab, and the New Orleans Police Department. These partnerships give students a unique, hands-on look at how STEAM principles are applied in real applications—making the experience both relevant and inspiring.
By introducing students to the world of STEAM early on, Delgado helps open doors to a future they may not have known existed. The event showcases the College’s wide-ranging and innovative programs, offering a glimpse into how STEAM subjects work together in real-world ways. Whether it’s using math in coding, art in design, or science in everyday problem-solving, students begin to see how the fields intersect—and where they might find their place.
Events like STEAM Day highlight Delgado’s commitment to academic excellence and innovation. It’s about planting the seeds of curiosity and showing young minds that with the right support and opportunities, they can go far. For the students who attend, it’s more than an event—it’s an introduction to meaningful careers that make a difference.
