Young Audiences Charter School Students Explore Maritime Careers

The Delgado Maritime & Industrial Training Center recently hosted students from Young Audiences Charter School for an immersive educational experience in the maritime industry. As Louisiana’s only Center of Excellence for Domestic Maritime Workforce Training and Education, the center provided a unique opportunity for students to explore the vast career possibilities within this essential field. 

Throughout the visit, students engaged with maritime professionals who shared their knowledge and experiences, offering valuable insight into the industry. A special thank you goes out to all the speakers who took the time to educate and inspire the students. Their firsthand accounts painted a vivid picture of the diverse roles available, from navigation and safety to leadership and crisis management. 

One of the highlights of the day was the hands-on experience with the center’s state-of-the-art simulator suite. Thanks to Mr. George, who turned on the simulators, students were able to step into the role of vessel operators, navigating critical waterways such as the Ohio and Atchafalaya Rivers. This interactive experience allowed them to gain a deeper understanding of the skills required in the field, making their visit even more impactful.
