Satisfactory Academic Progress
The United States Department of Education mandates that students maintain satisfactory academic progress (SAP) toward completion of their degrees within a reasonable period of time to be eligible for Title IV financial aid programs, including Pell, Federal SEOG, Federal Work Study, and Federal Direct Student Loans.
Students must meet the following standards:
(1) Grade point average- Achieving and maintaining at least a 2.00 grade point average
(2) Pace of progression- Passing a required number of hours (67% of all hours attempted)
(3) Maximum timeframe- Total overall hours must not exceed 150% of the published length of a student’s degree program

If mitigating circumstances prevented a student from meeting the requirements, a SAP Appeal may be filed.
Complete the online form via LOLA Self Service.Examples of mitigating circumstances:
- Log in to LOLA
- Select the Student tab along the top
- Under Check Financial Aid, click on Delgado Community College
- At the top right, select the Award Year you wish to view
- Select the Satisfactory Academic Progress tab to review your status.
- Medical illness and/or injury
- Death in immediate family: parent, spouse, child, grandparents, siblings, aunts or uncles
- Call to active military duty
- Legal problems or police matters
- Foreclosure or eviction
All of the examples above must pertain to the semester(s) in which you did not meet Satisfactory Academic Progress.
*** You may NOT base your appeal on****
- Your need for financial aid
- You did not know what classes to register for
- Your lack of knowledge that your financial aid was in jeopardy
- You did not know what to major in
- The classes that you took were many years ago
- You did not attend class, or stopped going to class
- You were not focused or committed to your education
- Check your SAP standards on your LOLA Self Service. Students will receive notification of SAP suspension via email. It is the student’s responsibility to have a valid email address on file.
- Submit your complete appeal online via LOLA Self Service Appeal form link. If a student has mitigating circumstances for not meet SAP standards, the student has the right to submit an appeal (A mitigating circumstance is an unusual or unexpected event beyond the student's control.)
- The committee will review the appeal and their decision is final.
- Students who have successful appeals are then put on an academic plan. Students will receive notification via email of their academic plan requirements.
- Students whose appeals are denied, must attend at their own expense until (1) the student meets the academic standards as outlined in the SAP policy or (2) the student successfully appeals and is approved to be placed on an academic plan in a future payment period.

FALL 2024
Friday, November 8, 2024- Final Deadline for SAP Appeals for Regular 16 week Session, 12 Week Session, and 8 Week Session 2
Spring 2025
Friday, January 3, 2025 – Spring 2025 Priority Deadline for Financial Aid Document/Financial Aid Appeals for Regular Term and 8-Week Session 1
Friday, January 31, 2025 – Spring 2025 Priority Deadline for Financial Aid Document/Financial Aid Appeals for 12-Week Session
Friday, March 7, 2025 – Spring 2024 Priority Deadline for Financial Aid Document/Financial Aid Appeals for 8-Week Session 2
Friday, April 18, 2025 - Final Deadline for SAP APPEALS for Spring 2025
Any appeals received after the priority date will not be reviewed until after classes have begun, therefore you are responsible for making payment arrangements to secure your classes for the semester.
