Speak Up!

Effective public speaking is a key component to career success. The goal of this course is to assist students in enhancing their public speaking skills.  Students taking this course will be introduced to the characteristics of a good speech and speaker; how to use language and convey an effective message; and practice speeches to improve confidence.

Citizenship

This class is designed to assist immigrants and refugees with the process to become a citizen of the United States. A special focus is placed on the testing and interviewing aspects of the citizenship process.

Business Basics

This course is designed to introduce students to the role small business plays in the American society. Students will be given the opportunity to study, explore, discuss and apply the principles and methods of small business organization and management. Students participate in a project that includes business planning and developing an elevator pitch for their business idea or concept.

Financial Success

Learning about money management and how to make sound financial decisions is a benefit of every adult. This class covers money management basics; how to avoid identity theft; building and maintaining good credit and finding money to finance academic goals

Computer Basics

This course is designed to introduce students to the basics of computer usage for academic and everyday usage. Topics covered in this course include: navigating an operating system and common internet browsers; using email effectively; and creating and editing text documents, spreadsheets, and developing presentations

College 101

This class is designed to assist students in understanding and navigating college life. In this class, students will be introduced to the college setting, learn about the expectations and requirements of college-level courses, and develop an individual plan for applying to and financing a college education. This class includes a discussion of campus resources and tours of the campus.  

ACCUPLACER Prep

These courses prepare students for the Delgado Placement Test (ACCUPLACER), so they can be placed into the best and most relevant course level for them. One class covers the reading and grammar topics and question types, and another class covers the math. Reading and grammar topics include inferences, purpose questions, relationships between sentences, subject-verb agreement, sentence boundaries (fragments and run-ons), and modifiers. Math topics include fractions, integers, proportions and percents, plane geometry basics, algebraic equations and inequalities, and polynomials. The English class is one week and the math is two weeks of class.

What are classes like?

All classes in the Adult Education Program are structured and follow a specific curriculum designed to help any student advance. You will choose the courses that best fit your needs, interests, and schedule. Typically, students come to class for 3-9 hours per week, and there are opportunities to attend labs (to work one-to-one with a tutor) as well!

When are classes available?

Classes are offered in the mornings, afternoons, and evenings on Mondays/Wednesdays and Tuesdays/Thursdays.

Classes are available during the following times:

Mornings

8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.

10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Afternoons

1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.

4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Nights

5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
