For Instructors
The Center for Writing, Reading, and Communications is here to support your teaching and help your students succeed. We partner with instructors across all disciplines to strengthen student writing, reading, and communication skills. Whether you need to refer a student who's struggling, schedule a class presentation, or track student engagement with our services, we're here to make it easy.
Refer a Student for One-on-One Support
Have a student who would benefit from a coaching session? Submit a referral, and our front desk will contact the student — usually within 24 hours — to schedule a coaching session. You can refer students who are struggling with writing assignments or who you believe would benefit from extra support.
Please note: Students must be notified about the referral. Be sure to check the appropriate box on the form to confirm you've informed them.
Submit one form per student.
Share Your Assignments
Help our coaches provide better support to your students by submitting your assignment instructions in advance. When coaches are familiar with your assignment requirements, prompts, and expectations, they can offer more targeted and effective feedback during coaching sessions.
Tip: Submit assignments as early as possible so coaches have time to review them before student sessions begin.
Share Your AI Usage Policy
As AI tools become increasingly common in academic writing, it's important that our coaches understand your expectations and guidelines. Share your course AI usage policy with us so we can:
- Reinforce your policies during coaching sessions
- Help students understand appropriate AI use for your assignments
- Guide students in documenting and citing AI assistance correctly
- Support your academic integrity standards
Whether you prohibit AI use entirely, allow it for specific purposes (like brainstorming or editing), or encourage experimentation with AI tools, we'll align our coaching with your expectations.
Policies are stored alongside your assignments so coaches have complete context for your course requirements.
Request a Classroom Visit
Want to introduce your students to our services? We'll visit your class — either virtually or in person — to explain how we support student writers. We'll cover:
- How our coaching process works
- What students can expect from a session
- How to schedule appointments and submit papers for online feedback
- The benefits of working with a coach
Please submit your request at least one week in advance so we can confirm the date and time with you.
Request a Custom Attendance Report
Need to track how your students are engaging with the CWRC? We can generate customized reports showing:
- Attendance for all students in your course
- Attendance for a specific student
- Visits during a particular time period
We'll provide your custom report within 24 hours of your request.
Questions?
If you have questions about any of these services or want to discuss other ways we can support your students, please don't hesitate to contact us. We're here to partner with you.
