The Office of Curriculum and Program Development
The Office of Curriculum and Program Development plays a crucial role in the design, maintenance, and compliance of curricula and programs, while working closely with deans, faculty, and other stakeholders to support the College's mission and meet the needs of the students and community.
The Office of Curriculum and Program Development has several key responsibilities:
- Collaboration with Deans and Faculty: The office works closely with academic deans and faculty members to develop and revise curricula and programs. This collaboration ensures that the courses and programs offered align with the College's academic goals and meet the needs of the students and the community.
- Overseeing the work of the Curriculum Committee: The director typically chairs the curriculum committee. This committee is responsible for reviewing and approving proposed curriculum changes, new programs, and course and program modifications. (See Curriculum and Program Development Process.)
- Leadership and Guidance: The office provides leadership and guidance throughout the curriculum and program development process by following established procedures and ensuring that all changes are consistent with the College’s quality standards and objectives. This involves facilitating discussions, providing resources, and ensuring that all stakeholders are involved in decision-making.
- Catalog Maintenance: In collaboration with other College offices, the office is responsible for ensuring that the college catalog, which contains information about courses and programs, is accurate and up-to-date. We work to incorporate any approved changes or additions into the catalog in a timely manner. This helps students, faculty, and staff to have access to the most current information regarding the College's offerings.
- Collaboration with Workforce Development: The office works with the Office of Workforce Development to ensure that non-credit courses, often focused on professional development and vocational training, are created in a timely manner. This collaboration helps to address the needs of the local workforce and provide relevant training opportunities to the community. (See LA Workforce Commission and available Industry-Based Certificates (IBC).)
- Compliance with Policies: The office ensures compliance with all relevant policies and guidelines set by the Louisiana Board of Regents and the Louisiana Community and Technical College System. We stay up-to-date with any changes in policies related to curriculum and program development and ensure that the College adheres to these requirements.
Alignment with College Mission, Vision, and Core Values: The office ensures that all curriculum and program development activities align with the College's mission, vision, and core values. We strive to create educational offerings that are consistent with the College's overarching goals and reflect its commitment to academic excellence, student success, and community engagement.
