Computer Information Technology
The Computer Information Technology Program (CMIN) teaches students the functions and operations of computer and internet technologies. Students will learn to apply the systematic methods of developing information system solutions for business and organizations, as well as planning, development, implementation, maintenance, and management of these technologies and systems in a variety of settings.
Curriculum Goals
Goals of this department’s curriculum include preparing students for entry-level positions
in information technology and information systems with enough knowledge to advance
along several career paths and providing the appropriate foundation for further studies
in computer information systems and information technology. Upon program completion, students are prepared to take various industry-based certifications which open doors in career
advancement.
In the associate degree program, students complete a required core curriculum comprised of an introduction to programming logic and controls, relational database, systems analysis, networking fundamentals, and web design basics. Complementing this core curriculum are four concentration areas that students will choose among to pursue: Programmer/Analyst, Web Design, Game Developer, or Information Security & Assurance. Finally, students are required to take 15 credit hours of general education requirements near the end of their degree to complete.
Industry Based Certifications
Many of the courses in this program align with Industry Based Certifications (IBCs), such as those offered by Adobe Certified Associate, Amazon Web Services, Unity, CompTIA, and more! If you've earned an IBC, you may be able to apply your certification towards college credit for your degree. Contact your advisor to learn more!

Overview of our Areas of Concentration
Learn SQL, Java, C++, VisualBasic, database management, and more!
In the concentration of Programmer/Analyst, students prepare for traditional jobs and careers as programmers, database developers, and systems analysts.
This concentration helps students prepare for traditional jobs and careers in the information technology field as programmer, database developers, and systems analysts. Instruction in programming and database management beyond the learning offered in the core curriculum are included in this concentration, with courses featuring advanced Java and database management as well as event-driven programming and C++ available for students.
Students can also earn a C.T.C. in Application Programming and potentially a C.T.C. in Cloud Computing either individually or automatically as part of their associate degree.
Learn HTML/CSS, JavaScript, UX/UI, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe XD, and more!
Students concentrating in Web Design will learn the fundamentals of design, development, a webpage maintenance required for becoming successful website designers. Course instruction includes a combination of technologies and tools to assist the student in working as a professional in the web environment. Students in this concentration will learn both the technology and business of web design.
Delgado Community College instructors work closely with professional web designers to ensure that our students are learning the most sought-after web design skills.
The Computer Information Technology Program offers both a Certificate of Technical Studies (CTS) in Web Design as well as a Web Design concentration as part of the Associate of Applied Science (AAS).
Students can also earn a C.T.C. in Web Programming either individually or automatically as part of their certificate program or associate degree.
Learn 3D modeling, Adobe Creative Cloud, Unity, Maya, and more!
The Game Developer concentration enables students to build a solid foundation with which to pursue careers in the game development industry.
In this program, students learn essential concepts in game development, functional job tracks in the industry, and industry structures together with a variety of computer application, art, and design software tools necessary for game and simulation creation on top of fundamental coding, security, and design techniques.
Students can also earn a C.T.C. in Application Programming either individually or automatically as part of their certificate program or associate degree.
Learn AWS, Linux, Windows Server, cryptography, cyber law, and more!
Students who pursue a concentration in Information Security & Assurance are instructed in the methods, policies, and procedures for protecting information systems from attacks while maintaining the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of information for use by authorized users.
The program teaches knowledge and skills in technical computer systems, including both hardware and software, computer networks, and computing forensics, as well as skills in technology-based law and professional communication.
Students can also earn a C.T.C. in Information Security and Assurance and potentially a C.T.C. in Cloud Computing either individually or automatically as part of their associate degree.
