Early Alert System
Delgado Community College is committed to the success of its students by providing an environment conducive to teaching and learning. To ensure that every student takes full advantage of the educational opportunities, the College has implemented a retention program supported through an Early Alert program.
Students who could use additional support will be contacted by an Early Alert representative to help the student navigate educational and personal obstacles.
The goal of the Early Alert program is to work with students individually and assist in a success plan that aids in overcoming any barrier to college success. The system allows faculty to be proactive, supportive, and involved in facilitating the academic components of student retention through early detection and intervention of students who are experiencing problems. Or allows the student to submit themselves to work with the success team.

Who Can Benefit from Early Alert?
There are many reasons that a student might be submitted to Early Alert: we work with students who have a range of academic and personal barriers that prevent them from being successful. Some of the most common reasons for submitting a student to Early Alert include:
- Excessive absences and/or tardiness
- Needs tutoring
- Has low test and/or quiz scores | Not completing homework
- Knowledge of personal or family difficulties (i.e. financial, death in the family, etc.)
- Change in demeanor
It is imperative to note that Early Alert cannot serve as a surrogate for good classroom management, nor are we disciplinary in nature. We have developed a set of best practices for using Early Alert to help your students be successful:
- Early Alert works best when used early! Submissions in the first four weeks of class are most likely to result in a successful outcome for your students
- Let your student know the nature of your concern for them and that you will be submitting them to Early Alert.
- Include Early Alert in your syllabus.
- Let us know when our feedback doesn’t match up with what you’re seeing in class
Note: For some referrals, such as the Counseling Services, the follow-up form may not contain certain information due to confidentiality reasons.
